Walk of HOPE - LeRoy Gives Genesee Cancer 

Assistance $20,000 Donation

BATAVIA, NY — September 2026 – Members of the Walk of HOPE - LeRoy (WOH) Committee presented the

Genesee Cancer Assistance (GCA) Board of Directors and staff with a check for $20,000 at the organization’s

September board meeting.

The Walk of HOPE – LeRoy has graciously donated to Genesee Cancer Assistance from its various fundraising

activities over the past several years. This year’s contribution reflects the committee’s hard work and dedication to

supporting the people of Genesee County throughout their cancer journey.

Board President Dr. Kevin Mudd expressed deep gratitude, stating, “We are very thankful for this donation. Because

of this generosity, the Genesee Cancer Assistance Board voted to increase the amount of financial aid provided to

patients, effective immediately. There are so many unexpected needs when managing a cancer diagnosis, and we

hope this helps relieve some of that burden.”

Karen Samis, Organizer of the Walk of HOPE – LeRoy, added, “We are incredibly proud to be able to provide

additional support to Genesee Cancer Assistance who support individuals and families of Genesee County who have

cancer. The continued generosity of our community makes it possible for Walk of HOPE to ease some of the burden

that these families face during such a difficult time.”

The Walk of HOPE - LeRoy is a passionate group of volunteers committed to raising awareness, honoring survivors,

remembering loved ones lost to cancer, and supporting those currently facing the disease.

Genesee Cancer Assistance was founded in 1995 by Dorothy Schlaggel and the late Russ Romano. The

organization provides financial aid and a variety of support services to help relieve the burdens caused by a cancer

diagnosis for residents of Genesee County.
