History & Mission
Genesee Cancer Assistance, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, co-founded in 1995 by Mrs. Dorothy Schlaggel & Mr. Russ Romano. Their shared desire was to create an organization through which cancer patients living in Genesee County could have access to financial aid and a variety of support services. Since its founding, Genesee Cancer Assistance has been able to assist thousands of individuals; helping hundreds of patients each year.
Our Goals
Alleviate some of the difficulties experienced by cancer patients, their families and caregivers, by providing financial assistance and a variety of free support services-including the Simply Beautiful program.
Offer patients the knowledge of where and how to gain access to useful information and other services available.
Provide patients with helpful resources regarding their diagnosis.
Meet Our Staff
Teresea Potrzebowski
Our Office Manager Teresa, has been working for Genesee Cancer Assistance since January of 2017. She is now a 20 year cancer survivor. Her job responsibilities include bookkeeping, managing the office needs, patient care and assisting with the fundraising events.
Sue Underwood
Our Executive Director is a 14 year cancer survivor and began working for Genesee Cancer Assistance in 2010. Sue's job responsibilities include event planning, overseeing the operations of the organization, patient care and working directly with the Board of Directors & volunteers.
